Choosing a Consultant Surgeon
Cosmetic surgery is intricate surgery that should be performed by a highly skilled and experienced surgeon, electing to have a cosmetic procedure is a big decision to make and it is important that you feel comfortable with both the surgeon and the environment where you procedure is to take place.
Perhaps the biggest decision for a patient choosing to go ahead with a cosmetic procedure is based upon the choice of surgeon. Important questions to ask are what are their qualifications, how often they have performed the procedure you require etc. The healthcare commission have compiled a document informing prospective patients about what questions they should ask before deciding to go ahead with surgery. See the useful links section of the site.
You may find it useful to speak to your GP to see if they can recommend a consultant. Alternatively it may be of use to contact the British Association of Plastic Surgeons (BAPS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) to find registered consultants in your area. These are the professional bodies that represent the field of cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery in the UK.
