Outpatient Appointment
Once your GP and yourself have decided that you need to see a Consultant, your GP will send a referral letter either to the Woodlands or direct to the Consultant. Your appointment will either be made by a Consultants secretary or by the Hospital. Once your appointment is made, you will receive a letter of confirmation in the post.
Your Appointment
When attending your appointment; please report to the reception area where complimentary refreshments and newspapers are available while you wait to see your Consultant.
If your Consultant decides that you require further investigations or tests, it may be possible to arrange these on the day, or a further appointment will be made for you before you leave the department.
Assessment
Patients requiring major surgery or who have pre-existing medical conditions; may be requested to attend a pre-operative assessment with one of our outpatient nurses at a later date.
In a pre-admission assessment, a nurse will ask you questions to understand your medical history and it may be necessary to carry out some routine tests and investigations such as blood tests, urine analysis and blood pressure checks, this is to confirm you are medically fit for surgery.
